Description
Written from November to December 1991

This is a piece after Alvin Lucier's Flowing Lines of Silence in Families of Hyperbolas. Maybe the title really should be contrasting lines of silence since the aspect of silence is the alternation of a triplet rhythm with a duple rhythm (9/8 to 5/4) The first two movements movement should be as fast as possible 208 is suggested for each but it may be too fast for the end of the second and two slow to keep up interest in the first. The third movement is a study into gradual overlapping of a phrase.

This work is in three movements:
I. Contrasting Lines
II. Accelerating Lines
III. Overlapping Lines

Premiered February 26, 1994 Trinity Chamber Concerts, Berkeley
